Many first time parents thoughts when they find out their expecting is what is the baby going to need? I got so many reccomendations for things I never knew I “needed” I was overwhelmed about the amount of stuff that was supposed to come along with a new baby. A cluttered room has never sat right with me, so I got to reasearch on the bare minimum I would need for baby and found the best non-toxic products to share with you!

Carseats
The most important thing you need for baby is a carseat! Flame retardent free carseats are becoming easier to find thankfully so theres a few options here. I personally wanted a “forever” carseat so I went with the adjustable Nuna Rava. A while later they came out with the Revv 360 which spins towards the door and seems infinitely easier than the latter. My second choice was the “clerk Fllo” I chose the Nuna because of the price and not needing to purcase a seperate infant insert; however if price wasn’t a factor I would choose Clerk’s merino wool option over the Rava’s polyester/bamboo blend.

There’s definitely more options to choose from but these are the top two I spent time researching and making inquires about.
Baby carriers
My son was always in a baby carrier. It was so convient being hands free while shopping or cleaning up and having a snuggly baby close enough to kiss! I loved wraps for the tiny baby stage and moved to a ring sling for back and hip carries during the toddler years
Organic Cotton baby wrap
Bambo and linen blend ring sling
Sleeping
Pretty early on I discovered a lot of newborn time is spent sleeping! I spent most of my sons naps contact napping either in a carrier or relaxing in bed with him so it was important to me to have a safe mattress for us to sleep on.
This is a budget friendly option depending on the size you want it can be pretty cheap! I love a big bed for cosleeping because my kid is a bed hog. Pure green latex mattress is certified organic and the matress is orgainc cotton and wool soo dreamy…
Another good chioce although a lot pricer is the avocado matress its completly orgainic and uses RWS wool they also have a vegan mattress!
Clothes
This is one that manyy people like to go overboard on I got soooooo many baby clothes that my son didnt even get a chance to wear. I try to keep it minimal i only ever really needed jammies in the begining and slowly added some oneies grow with me pants and wool pants and cardigans for the toddler years. I also avoided polyester and fabrics with flame retardents so I went for brands like
Burts Bees
I love their onsies and pajamas soo cozy and cute my son lived in jammies for a long time they have all kinds of adorable hand painted designs
Carters Little Planet
When I started dressing up my son a little more it was hard to find stylish organic clothes that weren’t super expensive and in came little planet super cute cardigans and clothes and budget friendly too
I love these grow with me pants they last forever and fit over bulky cloth diapers sooo well
Hocosa
Speaking of cloth diapers these wool pants will stop any acciental leaks and are sooo warm. Great for camping or babies that cant use blankets yet
Ideally i would have loved to support small local buisnesses esspecially for the wool garmets but thats not always financially fesible so amazon was my next best choice for staying in budget.
Diapering
Cloth diapering just made sense for me and I was really excited to do it. I have several posts about cloth diapering your newborn. If cloth isn’t for you
Dyper seems like a really good eco friendly option they’re made from bamboo and are certified B corp.
Dry wipes are great because you can just as water as you go and dont have to worry about preservatives that wet wipes need to be shelf stable. These Honest brand wipes are 100% organic cotton!
If cloth dipers are for you there’s a crazy amount of options I personally like flats for newborns and used osocozys organic cotton flats with their covers
Wool covers are a great alternitive to the plastic covers but a bit less budget friendly. Super cute though!
These ososcozy cotton wipes are super absorbant and get the job done quick
Diaper Cream
Just like their nipple balm this diaper cream is ultra soothing and clean
Nursing
All you technically need for this one is breasts butttt there are definitly things that will make your life a whole lot easier.
Nursing pads
These organic wool nursing pads are soo soft an dont irritate your chapped nipples which is a blessing
Nipple Butter
Speaking of chapped nipples the best stuff to sooth them is brestmilk just express a little and rub it around and let it air dry works amazing. This stuff is a close second. Sometimes I felt like my nipples needed a little extra moisture and this always did the trick
Pumping
If you run into supply issues and need to pump to bring it back up your insurance should cover a pump for you. Your provider can help you find out which pumps you qualify for or theres a few online sites that can help you out too. To store the milk I used tiny mason jars and used the mason baby bottles. They even have adaptors so you can pump directly into the mason jars
These are technically for the nanobebe bottles are the perfect size for mason jars too. Nearly plastic free pumping!
Bathing
Bath towels I mean technically baby could just use your cotton bath towles. But I think the hooded baby bath towles are so cute and keep babys head warm while they get dressed. I bought a few Burts Bees baby towels before my son was born and he still uses them at 2 years old so money well spent I think (:
I got a pack of the wash cloths too but rarely used them..
This enzymatic body wash helps keep rashes away and keeps baby smelling like a baby I love that it doesnt lather much and rinses away easy
I opted to bath baby in the sink with a natural rubber non slip pad rather than buy a whole seperate baby tub. It worked out well and still gets used years later.
Lastly a water purifyer for the tub. I like that this one is both budget and renter friendly.
Thats’s it! Theres the basic nessesities to get through the early baby days. Of course there all kinds of extra baby gadgets to make your life easier, but these are the basics and at the very least a good place to start! What are your baby essentials? What do you feel like you couldnt have lived without with a new baby?
Thank you so much for spreading the word about DYPER! We 💛 you!
